T2 Take On Texas Tonight

New, 3 comments

It's a home game! There have been a lot of road matches in the first half of the season but now with 16 games, 10 of them will be at home starting tonight.

With no Timbers game this weekend, how many of you will go see T2 play at Merlo Field? T2 will be looking to rebound off two bad road losses at home against Austin Aztex.

Portland Timbers 2

T2 (4-6-2, 14 pts) followed up a bad 2-0 loss in Oklahoma City with getting absolutely murdered in Colorado Springs. Beaten to a pulp and a 3-1 loss, there was little to be optimistic of their performance on the road at altitude. Whether elevation had anything to do with it, the one bright spot was Brent Richards scoring his first goal for T2.

Now T2 get to return home to Portland and play host to Austin Aztex. And from this point forward there will be no more long road trips. 16 games remain, 10 will be at home and none of the 6 remaining road games will be consecutive. So not only will T2 want to bounce back from a pair of road beatdowns, but they will also want to start off this next phase of the season off on a good performance.

Austin Aztex

Austin Aztex (5-6-1, 16 pts) got all 3 points in their last match against Sacramento Republic FC. The 1-0 result ended a three game losing streak. It was their fourth shutout of the season. And their forward Kris Tyrpak has the same goals (6) on the season as Kharlton Belmar (both players tied for 4th in the golden boot race).

This match against T2 is the 4th road match in a 5 game trip. After this match they will travel to Houston to face the Dynamo in the 4th round of the US Open Cup. And in their last match head coach Paul Dalglish had for the first time in a while, his full attacking complement. The shutout also built confidence for their defensive line. So they will be arriving in town full of confidence to take on a T2 side that have been quite poor on the road in their last two road matches.
