With a long match behind them following Tuesday's extra-time finish, the Timbers kept it short for Tuesday's starters, sending the majority of the team indoors for their recovery session before training was opened to the press. The remainder of the team were also off the pitch fairly quickly, stretching early on then heading indoors for a yoga session.
Of the players who were on the pitch when the press was allowed out to the training field, Adam Kwarasey, Maximiliano Urruti, and Alvas Powell were the only players who took part in Tuesday's match.
Injuries and Absences
Powell, who went out early on Tuesday's match due to what the Timbers thought was a muscle strain, was on the pitch and running sprints under the direction of fitness coach Nick Milonas. Powell looked to be fine and, although Porter did not confirm that he would be available for this weekend's match, the Timbers' coach did say that Powell may only have had a cramp and that if he did not play this weekend he would be available for the Timbers' next match, Wednesday's away game against the LA Galaxy.
Diego Valeri was not out on the pitch any more when the Timbers allowed the press out, but Porter said that Valeri would likely split time with Gaston Fernandez on Saturday with one player playing approximately sixty minutes and the other playing thirty. Porter also said that the team would be monitoring Valeri and seeing how he is feeling going into the match.
Dairon Asprilla was not in training today, but he was spotted at the training center. Although Caleb Porter was not given a chance to address Asprilla's status, Merritt Paulson tweeted after training that Asprilla would miss this weekend's match but could be back in training next week.
Will Johnson, who was away with the Canadian Men's National team for the last week and a half but did not play in either of the team's friendlies, was back in training today.
T2 player Danny O'Rourke was with the first team today.
Portland Timbers 2
Andy Thoma and Schillo Tshuma put in double duty today, first training with the first team then joining T2 for their noon-time practice session.
Nick Besler, also on loan from the first team, was in T2 training as well today.
The Timbers' final loanee to T2, Jake Gleeson, did not appear to have trained with either team today, although he may have worked with the first team while training was closed to the press.
A number of Portland Timbers U-23s players joined T2 for their training session, providing the number for a few large-scale drills that T2 might otherwise have lacked. T2 also have one of their trialists from early in the season back in camp, although his name and status with the team is currently unknown.
Anthony Manning, who is recovering from a concussion suffered early in the season, continued his absence from training today. T2 head coach Jay Vidovich confirmed that Manning is still going through the recovery protocols, but has progressed enough to do some fitness work apart from the rest of the team.
The Timbers' chef was grilling outdoors today, which made the whole place smell delicious. Sorry about the title.
