The Portland Timbers take on the Houston Dynamo tonight at Providence Park and will be looking to extend their current four game winning streak to five games in all competitions with another victory tonight. The Dynamo are the last Western Conference team that the Timbers dropped points to and one of the tightly packed group within striking distance of passing the Timbers in the standings.
If the Timbers can come out on top today, not only will they continue to set franchise records for consecutive wins, they will also have a chance to gain ground on the teams ahead of the on the table, with FC Dallas tying earlier today and the Seattle Sounders losing to the San Jose Earthquakes.
Previews
Match Preview: "In the center of the Timbers' attack, the Timbers will almost certainly be giving the start to Gaston Fernandez after Diego Valeri's 60 minute run out against the Sounders. Valeri, making his return from a rolled ankle, is only four appearances removed from completing his recover from the torn ACL that kept him out for the start of the season. Fernandez, meanwhile, has had several strong showings as the Timbers' playmaker, particularly when allowed space to combine with his teammates."
Preview Interview: "With Bruin scoring, the offense has provided support to the defense by creating a bit of breathing room between teams on the score line, and in doing so he defense has been prone to fewer individualized errors and soft goals. I don't think that the team is necessarily coming together because of Bruin but it certainly appears as things have begun to click for the Dynamo around his scoring streak."
