T2 have yet to defeat S2 across any competition this season. They have lost to S2 at Starfire both in the regular season and in the US Open Cup and they couldn't win at home at Merlo Field. Will things change tonight or be more of the same?
Portland Timbers 2
T2 (5-7-2, 17 pts), unlike their first team counterparts, have not found themselves on the appropriate end of the box score against fellow inaugural USL side S2. T2 have taken a pair of regular season defeats to along with getting bounced out of the US Open Cup by S2. But not all hope is lost. T2 have only played 5 matches at home and still have a winning record (3 wins, 2 losses). In addition to this, when S2 played at Merlo Field it could have been at least a 2-2 draw if the two goals T2 scored weren't called back for being offside.
Another thing to consider, as long as T2 score there could be a favorable outcome. In their past 5 home games, the two losses have been shutout losses. T2 were unable to score against the OC Blues and S2. But in the 3 wins they put away 8 goals. And the speedy forward who has had some success against T2, Andy Craven, signed onto the first team this past Saturday. He played 30 minutes last night at Providence Park so it would be unlikely he finds himself playing tonight as well.
Seattle Sounders 2
S2 (8-5-2, 26 pts) are still bad on the road. Their only victory has come against T2 at Merlo Field. Otherwise they are 1-4-2 on the season. It is their spectacular home record that has kept them near the top of the USL western conference, going 7-1-0 so far in league play.
And unlike their first team counterparts who are currently in a bit of a losing streak, S2 narrowly defeated Real Monarchs 1-0 at home in their most recent game on June 25th. Just prior to that home win over the Monarchs, S2 suffered another road loss. This one was a 2-1 defeat to Arizona United on June 20th.
Up next for T2, after hosting S2, will be another home game on Thursday, July 2nd as they host Arizona United before hitting the road to Vancouver again on July 10th.
