WWC Day 3 Open Thread: Heath, Morgan vs Catley

The busiest day of the Women's World Cup kicks off with the "Group of Death," as Sweden faces Nigeria at 1:00pm, and Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, and the USWNT faces Steph Catley's Australian side at 4:30pm, while in Group C, Cameroon faces Ecuador at 4:00pm, and Japan takes on Switzerland at 7:00pm.

Sweden, led by former US coach Pia Sundhage, is currently ranked 5th in the most recent FIFA Women's Rankings and has appeared in each edition of the Women's World Cup, finishing the runner up in 2003, while Nigeria, qualifying as the top team out of Africa, has  played in each World Cup, and is currently ranked 33rd.

In the day's second match tournament debutants face off, Cameroon and Ecuador kick off Group C play.

In the most anticipated match of the tournament so far, Alex Morgan and Tobin's Heath's United States, the top side out of CONCACAF and #2 team in the world takes on Steph Catley and the Matildas, who qualified third out of Asia and are ranked 10th.

In the nightcap, 2011 Champion Japan, who has appeared in each World Cup and currently ranked #4, qualifying as the top team out of Asia faces tournament newcomer Switzerland, who qualified as a group winner out of UEFA and is ranked 19th.
