The Portland Timbers could finally wrap up their pursuit of forward Lucas Melano in the next two days with a potential announcement set for Friday morning, according to the team. While the Timbers did not name Melano as the player in question, stating only that the team could make a "player announcement", the team's hunt for the Argentine youngster has been all over the press in the last week.
Melano, a 22-year-old striker with Diego Valeri's former club Lanus, has been a hot commodity this year, leading Lanus in scoring with five goals in fifteen games and attracting attention from both North America and Europe.
If the Timbers do get their man, and there is every indication that they will, Melano has historically played at the top of the formation as the center striker in a 4-3-3, but could also slot in out on the right wing as a more direct attacking option than the Timbers tend to use in the position.
There is no guarantee right now, but keep an eye out on Friday for the introduction of this talented youngster.
