T2 lost to S2 again. They have yet to tally a result against a fellow Cascadia side. On Thursday night T2 will face Arizona United and hope they can put Monday night's loss behind them.
Portland Timbers 2
T2 (5-8-2, 17 pts), have two losses in a row right now and will need to bounce back against Arizona United. When these two teams last met in Scottsdale, Arizona, T2 spoiled their home opener with a solid 2-0 road victory. That victory followed two consecutive league road losses to Sounders 2, losing 2-1, and then Sacramento Republic losing 3-0. T2 are in a similar rut having just lost on the road 3-2 to the Whitecaps 2 and followed that up with a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of S2.
The highlight from Monday night's match against S2 was the debut of 17 year old midfielder Blake Bodily from the Timbers Academy. He started and played 75 minutes that saw him mostly out on the left wing in the first half and some time on the right wing in the second. He certainly didn't shy away from any challenges and overall really didn't look out of place. It was a solid debut for the kid and my continued hope is that we see a lot more academy players getting minutes in the summer months.
The hope for tonight will be that T2 have defeated Arizona on the road and should be able to get a win at home too. The only known absence from the team right now is Rundell Winchester who is with the Trinidad and Tobago national team.
Arizona United SC
Arizona United (6-6-1, 19 pts) are coming off a pair of 2-1 wins recently. They started their season off with 3 straight road wins only to succumb to 3 losses and a draw (including T2's win over AZ in that stretch). They grabbed their 4th win and first home win 4 games into a 4 game home stretch that started with T2's win on April 25th. That 1st home win of the season back on May 16th was all they had until the most two recent matches.
They picked up their 5th win of the season and 2nd win at home against S2 on June 20th defeating them 2-1. They followed that up with another 2-1 win at home against Real Monarchs on the 27th. The 2-1 win against Real Monarchs included a 93rd minute stoppage time game winner from defender Scott Morrison.
Also, Thursday night's match has been rescheduled. Kick off was originally set for 7:00pm but has since been pushed back to 7:30pm due to the predicted heat of the day. And after the match against Arizona, T2 play a home and home series against the Whitecaps 2. They will travel to Canada on Friday, July 10th before facing them again at home on Sunday, July 19th. And there is another Sounders 2 matchup right after that on the 24th.
