Women's World Cup Open Thread: Germany vs. England

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Nadine Angerer and Germany takes on Jodie Taylor and England in the match for 3rd Place at 1:00pm.

Germany is certainly disappointed to to find themselves playing in this match after their 2-0 loss to the United States, but they wont be holding back.  Featuring Golden Boot front-runners Celia Sasic and Anja Mittag and Golden Gloves finalist Nadine Angerer in goal, the Germans will look to prove that their last match was a blip and they will be looking to send their captain Angerer and head coach Silvia Neid off on a high note.

On the other side of the ball, England is disappointed with how they found themselves in this match, especially after a late own goal gave the match to Japan, but this is also the farthest England has ever reached in the World Cup.  While their loss ended in fluky fashion, England has only looked stronger as the tournament has wore on.  With their speedy attacking options, they have the weapons to push the Germans much as the United States and France did in the previous two matches, especially if Jodie Taylor starts up top again.

The overall series between these sides goes decidedly to Germany, who have never lost to England in 20 meetings, with this most recent being a 3-0 German win at Wembley Stadium in London in November.
