For the third time Forbes has released their estimated valuations for MLS teams. The Portland Timbers came in as the fourth most valuable team with a valuation of $185 million and an operating income of $4 million. The three teams ahead of them are (In order): Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy, and Houston Dynamo. Each of those three teams are worth more than $200 million dollars.
For comparison in 2013 Forbes released their second list of the most valuable teams in MLS. At the time the Portland Timbers were the third most valuable team in the league with a valuation of $141 million and an operating income of $9.4 million. The decrease in operating income is probably due to the increase in DP signings.
Some other interesting notes are that 8 teams have a projected positive operating income, which is down from 10 in 2013. With Toronto having the largest decrease, going from $4.5 million to -$7 million. All of the MLS teams are now valued over $100 million.
What do you think? Anything else interesting that jumps out at you?
