Match Recap: Sacramento Defeat T2 in Final Home Game

Sacramento got a commanding 3 goal lead in the first half and T2 were unable to find a response. Rodrigo Lopez opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Justin Braun added two goals in under two minutes to give the Republic a 3 goal cushion into the half. T2 were kept off the board in the second half as well and Sacramento made the 3-0 lead stick and took home all three points.

In the 13th minute, Sacramento got numbers forward and a ball sent into the center of the pitch near the top of the box found its way to the feet of a wide open Rodrigo Lopez. Lopez was already lining up his shot as he ran towards the ball which was settling down at the top of the arc. Lopez sent a curling effort into the top right corner past the outstretched hands of Gleeson and opened the scoring for Sacramento.

In the 33rd and 34th minutes, Justin Braun got a brace and put Sacramento up 3-0. The two goals were 1 minute and 8 seconds apart. In the 33rd minute Lopez fed Thomas Stewart who turned and got a shot off but it was immediately blocked out. It still found a Sacramento player and when the ball got out wide to Danny Barrera he sent in a pin point cross that found the head of Justin Braun. Braun made no mistake despite Gleeson coming out and being shouldered between two T2 defenders.

Then one minute later, Braun did it again. Only a few passes after the restart a horrible back pass went right to Justin Braun who put a great touch on it to get himself well in behind the defense and 1v1 with Gleeson. Braun beat Gleeson and tapped it into an empty net from about 10 yards out. And his brace gave Sacramento a comfortable 3 goal lead into the break.

In the second half, T2's attacking play improved as it usually does in second halves but Sacramento kept T2 off the board. Justin Braun nearly got his hat trick in the middle of the second half but Jake Gleeson stopped it with the underside of his wrist. And despite chances from both sides, the score stayed the same, allowing Sacramento to leave victorious over T2.

A disappointing last home match for sure. T2 now have one last game left to play. T2 travel to Carson, California to take on LA Galaxy II in the season finale on Wednesday, Sept 16th. After that match, no matter the result, T2 get a long off season to prepare for 2016.
