Round of 32, part 2: What we love in the Timbers Universe

What do we love most in the Timbers Universe

The all new bracket

Sorry for the delay in posting; too much travel and work this week.

We had an outcry from some friends including multiple members of the Lonestar Brigade asking for a change in the seeding. As they threatened to revoke my rights to wear LSB 3.0 at Dallas away this year, we've added your favorite game icon to the right side of the bracket as a #5 seed. Folks around 107 know all about Pink Unicorns - for the LSB it's all about 3-wick candles. Don't get it? Reddit. So, what the hey...we hadn't played any of the second 16 matches so we did a shuffle.

Our results are in from the first set of elections with the chalk holding well overall. We had one super tight competition and mild upset with Timber Joey's chainsaw edging John Strong calling the match by a single vote. The rest of the ballots were pretty straight forward:

  • TIFO! over watching the hone crowd assemble 73-27
  • Diego Chara's smile beat the Valeri welcome back 75-25
  • Goal Celebrations beat Adi braces 75-25
  • The build up and PT-FC chant before a big corner beat the No Pity Van 75-25
  • National Anthem over playing w/Big Hearts and Brass Balls 64-37
  • Big goals against the Galaxy over the Ridgy Roll 63-37
  • The sound of firing up the chainsaw over the sound of John Strong's game calls 50-50
  • Tetris! over the amazing Valeri-Adi-Johnson goal 65-35

On to this week's competition The survey can be found here!:

(1) Atticus versus (8) The first drumbeats of 'We salute you!"

2013 magic extended off the pitch with one of the best MLS or global soccer stories of the decade with Atticus and the Green Machine versus the Timbers. The nominating committee is very pleased to say that Atticus has been doing great! Opposing Atticus and the Green Machine are the first drum beats that kickoff "We salute you!" after a PTFC goal.

(3) The 2011 Opener versus (6) players emerging from the tunnel in the dark and rain before a match

Goose bumps vs. legendary goose bumps.

(4) Scoring on Rimando vs Game Day traditions (Pink Unicorns, and 3-wick candles).

Rimando is a freaking brick wall. Valeri goes in and you know that this is ... crap, another Rimando save. But Borchers header at the death put a fork in RSL's season. Sad that it was against his former side. Brilliant that Rimando stood no chance. (and that the <200 TA at RSL chanting PTFC were deafening.) The opponent? At the request of several, we have game day traditions from Pink Unicorn's in the Army, to burning a 3-wick candle in Texas to insure victory.

(2) Singing you are my sunshine v The deafening PT-FC chant after RSL ended our 2013 run. Both are parts of what are best about Timbers game days.

(2) Finishing with 11 on Seattle's 7 at Starfire in the USOC v. (7) Big late goals from the "Salty Old Dog" Do you love Jack's winners at the death more than watching Clint Dempsey show the world he is in fact a petulant child while simultaneously being eliminated from the Cup at the disgrace in Tukwila?

(4) Raising the log slices post match v. (5) Nagbe's humble play. It's great to celebrate the goals and clean sheets; Nagbe is such a danger on the ball that he is hacked to the ground and doubled through the season. But he just gets up and goes back to playing the game with humility.

(3) 107ist community outreach vs. (6) Chris Rifer's 3 Questions articles. In some ways, the TA is a community service organization with soccer problem. From food banks to building pitches, our supporter culture is more than the game day. Opposing this is STF's Chris Rifer and his well read and heavily commented 3 Questions series after Timbers matches.

(1) Timber Jim vs. Caleb Porter's many postgame passionate episodes. The legend, What else is there to say? The challenger, weather it's laughing at Bruce Arena, tossing a tissue from Pereja, or the drama of Guardiola reverting to childhood, CP's postgames have been memorable. (Editor's note: I love watching the eye contact CP makes on the stadium walkaround; he doesn't fake it...he's saluting you back!)

Polls are open. There are no losers here, but may the best win!
