Update: Well, the Timbers came through unscathed. Here are the day’s picks:

Well, the time has finally come for Atlanta United and Minnesota United to cull the MLS herd and snatch away five players each in the Expansion Draft. For the Portland Timbers that means that there is a 50-50 chance that the side will lose a player to expansion today, so brace yourself for the picks to come in at 11:00 a.m PT.

The Timbers will not be losing one of their stalwarts, however, with eleven players able to be protected from the draft. The Timbers’ protected list:

Fanendo Adi, Diego Valeri, Diego Chara, Darlington Nagbe, Jake Gleeson, Alvas Powell, Vytas, Liam Ridgewell, Gbenga Arokoyo, Lucas Melano, and Darren Mattocks. Marco Farfan is also protected as a homegrown player.

That leaves plenty of players exposed, but most of our worries have been centered around the possibility of losing Zarek Valentin, Jack McInerney, and Ben Zemanski tp the Uniteds.

Of course, it is Major League Soccer, so it is a little more complicated than all that. Thankfully, you can find the full rules for the expansion draft right here.

The picks will be coming every three minutes starting at eleven, so keep an eye out on the league’s live stream and in the comments once the draft begins.
