Portland Timbers Announce Broadcast Schedule for 2016; Confirm Jake Zivin as Play-by-Play Announcer

The Portland Timbers will be televised.

Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

The Major League Soccer season is coming up in just three short weeks and now we know just where we will be able to watch Portland Timbers matches.

While eight matches this year will be broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2, another five will be on FOX Soccer 1, and the FOX broadcast network will have the Timbers' July 17th match against the Seattle Sounders and July 31st match against Sporting Kansas City nationwide, the rest of the Timbers' matches will be split between ROOT Sports, and KPTV and KPDX. ROOT will feature ten matches, KPTV will broadcast five, and KPDX will broadcast four.

On the call for this season will be Jake Zivin and Ross Smith. Smith has featured regularly for the Timbers for the last two years, while Zivin took over the play-by-play on Timbers broadcasts late last year.

The team also confirmed the return of weekly Timbers show "Timbers in 30", which will air on Fridays during the season at 6:30 p.m. on KPTV.

The Timbers' press release:

TIMBERS ANNOUNCE BROADCAST SCHEDULE FOR 2016 SEASON
Jake Zivin, Ross Smith anchor television broadcasts for Timbers’ sixth MLS season

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced their complete broadcast schedule for the 2016 Major League Soccer season. Including 15 nationally televised matches, all 34 of the Timbers’ regular-season matches will be broadcast live both on television and radio for a sixth consecutive season in 2016.

Timbers broadcast partners ROOT SPORTS and KPTV FOX 12 will again air the club’s regional and local television broadcasts, respectively, this season. 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (KXTG) and La GranD (KGDD) continue to serve as the flagship stations for the club’s English and Spanish radio broadcasts, respectively.

In 2016, ROOT SPORTS will deliver 10 matches across the Northwest region to cable and satellite homes in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. Nine matches will be featured over the air locally on FOX 12 or sister-station PDX TV (KPDX). Additionally, ROOT SPORTS will re-air completed Timbers matches throughout the season.

Calling the action for the Timbers on television broadcasts will be play-by-play announcer Jake Zivin and analyst and former Timbers defender Ross Smith. Reporter Samantha Yarock returns to the broadcast team with contributions to the club’s postgame show on ROOT SPORTS and FOX 12. In addition, Smith and Zivin host the post-match show on every ROOT SPORTS, FOX 12, and PDX TV game, featuring match analysis and interviews with head coach Caleb Porter and Timbers players.

On the radio side, play-by-play announcer Keith Bleyer will be paired with analyst and former MLS assistant coach Brett Jacobs. Fletcher Johnson returns for his sixth season as host of the radio pregame, halftime and postgame shows.

FOX 12 is the home of the Timbers’ weekly program, "Timbers in 30," which airs each Friday during the season at 6:30 p.m. (Pacific). The show features exclusive, inside access, showing the club’s inner-workings and personalities as well as provides team and game analysis with in-studio appearances from Timbers coaches and players each week.

In addition to match broadcasts, 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game airs the Timbers’ weekly program, "Talk Timbers," each Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. (Pacific). "Talk Timbers" features interviews with coaches, players and club representatives and covers both Timbers and MLS news.

Portland’s 15 games on national television include broadcasts on FS1, ESPN, ESPN2, and the league’s debut on the FOX broadcast network.
