MLS Week 3 Open Thread: Rivalries Continue as the Cascadia Cup Kicks Off

It is another fun week of MLS matches, kicking off with Friday's match between 2015's expansion sides, Saturday's rivalries both Cascadian and Californian, and a Sunday afternoon showdown between two of the league's top sides.


New York City FC vs. Orlando City SC

Kickoff: 4:00 p.m. PT at Yankee Stadium in New York City, NY

One sentence preview: The 2015 expansion sides meet for the first time this year and, surprise, they are both looking to show that they can compete with the establishment of the East.


Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew SC

Kickoff: 2:00 p.m. PT at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL

One sentence preview: Despite being one of the most well thought of teams in the East, the Crew have started off the season with two tough losses, but now they will have a chance to change against a team in flux.

New York Red Bulls vs. Houston Dynamo

Kickoff: 4:00 p.m. at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ

One sentence preview: The Dynamo have scored twice as many goals as anybody else in the Western Conference, and the Red Bulls have yet to put the ball in the back of the net.

FC Dallas vs. Montreal Impact

One sentence preview: Last week this would have been two of the most highly thought of teams in MLS facing off; this week it is Dallas's chance to right the ship after their shellacking at the hands of Houston.

One sentence preview: The California Classico sees the Earthquakes -- the Earthquakes! --  try to hold on to their spot at the top of the Western Conference following their 2-1 win over the Timbers last week.


Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution

Kickoff: 11:30 p.m. PT at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, PA

One sentence preview: The Revolution and the Union both re-shaped their midfields over the offseason and both are in the middle of the pack to start the season.

D.C. United vs. Colorado Rapids

One sentence preview: The Rapids will be without their new star player after an exuberant celebration last week somehow earned him a match ban from MLS.
