Prediction Thread: LAG vs. PTFC

Well, that was a crap game. Likewise, predictions weren't great. In fact no one predicted an Orlando win, much less the scoreline. Deschutes did manage to win the pick of the week by correctly guessing Kaka would get two assists, that Valeri would assist, that Jack Mac would score and Molino would score for five points. Lots of you figured Kaka and Valeri would get assists and that Jack Mac and Kaka would score, so there was a smattering of points to go around.

The Standings:

  1. Deschutes -- 13
  2. pelop777 -- 10
  3. Crafty_PDX -- 10
  4. Ibowyer -- 8
  5. TimberTKO -- 8
  6. MindfulCyclist -- 7
  7. shawn-a-tron -- 6
  8. GeorgeCorps17 -- 6
  9. Withdrawn Striker -- 5
  10. Timber DT -- 5
  11. Hendrik Johannes -- 5
  12. Diesel10 -- 5
  13. richard.hamje -- 5
  14. Z-whiz -- 5
  15. Webfooter17 -- 4
  16. Coupens -- 4
  17. Rhyanoceras -- 4
  18. ClayKavalier -- 4
  19. straight red -- 3
  20. Sir Squidward -- 3
  21. TheChooChooChin -- 3
  22. rattmed -- 3
  23. Alexander Kelly -- 2
  24. afreborg -- 1
  25. Ryan Gates -- 1
  26. Shoot the Moon -- 1
  27. PenguinChe -- 1
  28. DerZwoelffteMann -- 1

And the ways to earn points:

  • Correct score: 3 points
  • Correct result (draw/win/loss): 2 points
  • Each goal-scorer: 1 point
  • Each clean sheet: 1 point
  • Each assist: 1 point
  • Player with the first yellow card of the match: 1 point
  • Player with a red card: 1 point
Also, as last year, let's keep score predictions in the realm of possibility. I tend to say no more than eight goals between teams in one game, but since 5-4 is at least possible, and has happened, that eight goal cap is about as hard as MLS's salary cap is. But I don't want to see 7-5 scorelines just to rack up points on goal scorers.

First yellow card scoring remains the same, as that was the consensus in the comments (slightly). And it means I don't have to change things. I'll think about ways to redo the card scoring next year. Live and learn!

Another Sunday game, this time in California. Hopefully it resembles the last trip the Timbers took to StubHub, and not the one before that. Generally, the Timbers haven't done too well on the road vs. the Galaxy, but very recent history is definitely on their side. Can they repeat it, and maybe spark another run like the one that ended 2015?
