Portland Timbers Draw Deportivo Saprissa and C.D. Dragon in CONCACAF Champions League Group

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

CONCACAF held the draw for the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League groups tonight and now we know who the Portland Timbers will need to beat out if they want to make it into the knockout stages of the competition. Drawn into Group B, the Timbers will face C.D. Dragon and Deportivo Saprissa when the 2016-17 CCL tournament kicks off August.

Saprissa are one of Costa Rica and CONCACAF's most storied sides. 32 time winners of the Primera División de Costa Rica, Saprissa have also appeared 24 times in CONCACAF Competition. Saprissa often have a number of internationals on their roster and this year is no different as they boast Costa Rican fullback Roy Miller and Panamanian keeper Jaime Penedo, both veterans of Major League Soccer.

Dragon is a much less familiar side for US viewers as this is their first time in the CCL. A well established side in El Salvador, Dragon won the 2016 Clausura, their first title in the Salvadoran Primera División since 1953.
