Portland Timbers at Real Salt Lake: How to Watch, Preview, Match Chat [7:00]

MLS: Portland Timbers at Real Salt Lake Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers are headed into the mountains today to take on Real Salt Lake. The Utah side has been flying high this year and one third of the way through the season are still unbeaten at Rio Tinto, so expect a hard fought match as the Timbers look to extend their current unbeaten run to four games in MLS play.

With the Copa America Centenario still rolling on — and the United States having advanced to the semifinals — both sides are missing players, so how the Timbers cope with the absence of Darlington Nagbe and how RSL are able to fill in the hole left in their midfield without Kyle Beckerman will be a major factor in this match.

Match Preview

“No matter the nuances of the Timbers' approach to RSL, the key to the match will be the Timbers play out on the wings. RSL boast two of the most dangerous wide attacking players in MLS in Joao Plata and Burrito Martinez, and both the full backs and the wide midfielders will need to contribute to their defense if the Timbers want to keep RSL contained.”
