Midfielder Dagny Brynjarsdottir scored for the second consecutive match and forward Nadia Nadim tallied the winner from the penalty spot as Portland Thorns FC came from a goal down to beat Sky Blue FC 2-1 Saturday night at Providence Park in front of 14,287 fans. Portland extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games with a second comeback win in their last two matches.
As in their last match, Thorns FC conceded the opening goal as Tasha Kai opened the scoring for Sky Blue in the 29th minute. Portland responded just ten minutes later as Brynjarsdottir again tallied an equalizing goal with her fourth goal of the season, heading in off a corner kick.
Despite going into halftime on level terms, Portland found the winner from the penalty spot after midfielder Hayley Raso was fouled in the Sky Blue box in the 61st minute. Nadim stepped up and calmly powered a shot into the left side of the goal. Nadim and Brynjarsdottir both drew level with midfielder Lindsey Horan for the team lead in goals scored.
Portland took all three points to remain at the top of the league table, despite missing a number of internationals ahead of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Portland currently holds a five point lead in the standings over second place Western New York Flash.
