The Portland Timbers have had a whopping two players selected to the game day roster of the 2016 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.
Liam Ridgewell and Darlington Nagbe were both selected to play in tonight’s All-Star Game as the assembled MLS side takes on famed English club Arsenal, joining players like Giovinco, Didier Drogba, and a bunch of other guys not named Diego Valeri as they look to protect the good name of the league against these foreign invaders.
Of course, Ridgewell is injured and is going to miss the match, banking a one game suspension for this weekend’s Timbers match against Sporting Kansas City thanks to a recently enacted rule designed to keep teams from holding players out of the ASG. In the Timbers case this seems like a misapplication of the rule as Ridgewell was forced to miss Saturday’s match against the LA Galaxy due to injury, but it seems doubtful that any relief will be forthcoming from the league.
