Diego Valeri makes the shortlist for MLS MVP

Those four other players will be highly disappointed

MLS: D.C. United at Portland Timbers Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Diego Valeri might need to make a space in his trophy case.

Yesterday, Major League Soccer announced it’s End Of Year Awards Finalists, and only one Timber made the cut, but it’s the obvious choice in Diego Valeri for MVP.

There are four other players up for the award: Miguel Almirón (Atlanta United), Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC), Nemanja Nikolić (Chicago Fire) and current MVP David Villa (New York City FC). Each player listed is worthy of the title, but let me remind you - only one had a 9 game goal streak and scored 21 goals, which set the record for midfielders in MLS. El Rey has also, at various times throughout the season, picked this team off the turf and onto his back, leading the Timbers to victory.

Most of the Awards will be given out during the first couple weeks of November, though we’ll have to wait for MLS MVP - that will be announced on December 4th.
