Help Wanted: Our Offseason Signing Wish List

Hello friends. Unfortunately for us in Portland, we’re now firmly into the offseason. While I’m sure there will be plenty of Thorns and Timbers transfer stories ahead, first I want to talk about some ‘signings’ of our own. We’re looking to add to our staff for the 2018 season so we can provide even better coverage of Soccer City USA, and there are a few specific roles we’re looking to fill. Staff Writer

This one’s pretty self-explanatory. We’re looking for people who can write about soccer things, be it breaking news, human-interest style feature stories, or a deeper dive into whatever scandal is going on at the time (because that happens so often in this town). You’ll be expected to be able to self-start and react to breaking news in a timely fashion, but also take assignments and uncover your own stories from time to time.

If you have writing samples and prior sportswriting experience, great, include that in your email. If not, that’s fine and we want to hear from you too. Also include why you want to write for Stumptown, what kind of articles you’re most interested in writing, and what you think you’ll bring to our team.

Social Media Manager

Let’s be honest. Social media is a huge deal, and we don’t have a staff member devoted to managing ours. We’re looking for someone who can look after our social presence (Facebook, Twitter) both to provide our readers with better social coverage and to increase our reach and readership overall.

Previous social experience is a big plus, but the ability and drive to continually learn and improve is more important. In your email, discuss what you think the Stumptown social strategy should look like, any experience you have with social, and mention your favourite social brands and why you like them.

[Filled] Thorns Photographer

This one’s pretty straightforward. We need more pictures of Thorns home matches, and need a capable photographer to take them for us.
