Portland Timbers at LA Galaxy: How to Watch, Previews, Match Chat [4:00]

MLS: Portland Timbers at LA Galaxy Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers come into today’s match against the LA Galaxy riding high on the back of their big season opening win last week, but they will need to dig deep to sustain their momentum if they want to officially put their road woes in the past and get a win in Carson. Getting points at the StubHub Center will be made all the more difficult by a spate of injuries to the Timbers’ back line, with Vytas out and both Liam Ridgewell and Powell questionable coming into today’s match.

Still, the Timbers have their offense intact and depth pieces ready to step in, and will be facing a Galaxy side that is just as injury-hit, but is also facing suspensions to two starters of their own.

Previews

Match Preview: “Filling in for Vytas and matching up against new LA Designated Player winger Romain Alessandrini will be youngster Marco Farfan in his first team debut. At only 18 years old, Farfan will be the youngest player to see the pitch for the Timbers in the MLS era when he takes the field at StubHub this afternoon. However, it was Farfan who was matched up against Alessandrini in the Timbers' final match of the preseason and although Alessandrini was the Galaxy's biggest creative force on the night, Farfan held his own, looking comfortable playing on the flank behind Darlington Nagbe.”

Preview Interview: “The sense of guidance is gone. Bruce Arena always knew what he was doing when it came to roster moves and tactical changes on the fly during key moments of the match. While Curt does have previous head coaching experience, he's unproven with the fans and only time can change that.”
