Video evidence why Nagbe's pass to Guzman is an assist

I must say that at first glance I thought that David Guzman attempted a shot that was stopped by Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric. So when I heard that Opta decided to change the pass to an assist for Nagbe I was intrigued since it clearly looks like Guzman takes a blocked shot before recovering it and taking a second shot. That was, until I watched this video posted by the Portland Timbers.

Starting at 1:14 seconds in, you'll noticed that Guzman uses the outside of his right boot to flick the ball beyond and away from Deric. Deric managed to impede the flick only a little, because Guzman collected it and was able to fire it in the net. Instead of taking a shot, it is clear Guzman attempted to bypass the keeper. The slight deflection didn't defeat the fact that Darlington Nagbe's pass is registered as an assist.

Also, the video gets close to the incident between Diego Valeri and Deric after Valeri's second goal. It looks closer to intentional that Deric lifted his arm to trip Valeri. Minor incident in the end, but created a small scuffle. Valeri really didn't need to fetch the ball either.
