Shots Fired!

With the derby only days away, yesterday Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer decided to up the ante and throw some shade at Timber Joey during a press conference, questioning his credentials when it comes to dealing with wood.

“Well, I don’t like it I can tell you that,” Schmetzer said when asked about Timber Joey’s tradition of slicing a log slab after every Portland goal at Providence Park. “I mean that log and his whatever – I don’t even know if he’s a real lumberman or whether he’s just a guy. I’ll do a little digging on that and I’ll get back to you.”

Lumberman? Really? That’s pretty weak sauce when it comes to trying to stoke the fire of a rivalry. Of course we all know that Timber Joey is a Lumberjack and has the credentials to back it up. I guess it’s the lack of creativity that gets me, if you’re going to throw shade - make it good.

ETA: Timber Joey responds.
