Last week, Mark Parsons noted that Horan has been hitting her stride in the last few weeks after missing out on preseason due to injury.

PORTLAND THORNS FC MIDFIELDER LINDSEY HORAN VOTED NWSL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO (June 6, 2017) - Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 8 of the 2017 NWSL season.

Horan, who turned 23 on May 26, scored twice for the Thorns in the first half to help deliver a 2-0 road victory over Sky Blue on Saturday as Portland extended their unbeaten run to six games, the longest active streak in the league. Coach Mark Parsons and his players currently sit in third place in the standings - three points behind the North Carolina Courage, but with a game in hand on the league leaders.

The Golden, Colo. native got on the end of a dead ball swung into the box by forward Nadia Nadim in the 20th minute and powered a header into the far corner that left Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan with no chance of stopping the ball. Horan then doubled Portland's advantage in the 42nd minute when she executed a well-timed run into the box and stabbed home a low cross from Meghan Klingenberg. (Watch highlights)

The U.S. international played all 90 minutes against Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. - registering four shots (two on target) and the central midfielder completed 74.4 percent of her 39 total passes in the match, according to Opta.

It is the first time in her NWSL career that Horan scored two goals in a game. The former Paris Saint-Germain player has made a knack out of making her goals count for Portland - with four of her seven career tallies in the league being game-winning goals and one a game-tying goal.

The 5-foot-9 Horan has also put her aerial prowess on full display during her time in the NWSL with four of the seven goals resulting from headers - and all but one of those coming from set pieces.

It is the first time Horan has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week and the 12th time a member of the Thorns has won the award.

The Portland Thorns FC will return to action on Saturday June 17 at 10 p.m. ET against Sky Blue FC at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
