The Reggae Boys kicked off their Gold Cup 2017 quest with a 2-0 win against Curacao. Portland Timbers forward Darren Mattocks started the night off on the bench, but that would change when he came on the pitch in the 60th minute.
It would only take him around twelve minutes or so to smash home a goal to put the Reggae boys up for good sealing the victory.
Just take a look at this goal.
This goal should give him the confidence going forward and this could lead to a productive tournament which includes not injuring himself (knock on wood). As mentioned above he started the night on the bench with Reggae Boys coach Theodore Whitmore deciding to go with 37 year-old Jermaine Johnson and 22 year-old Romario Williams (who’s currently on loan at Atlanta United) up top.
Hopefully the good showing he put on in the limited minutes, will get him consideration when it comes to their next Gold Cup opponent, Mexico. El Tri of course is favored to make to the final. So saying it will be a tough go of it for Jamaica would be a bit of an understatement. Though this is the same team that knocked the United States out of the Gold Cup in 2015.
