The United States kick off their quest for their sixth Gold Cup, and Bruce Arena’s third today against Panama. The last time these two teams met, it was a 1-1 draw in a WCQ, in Panama back in March. These two countries are favored to be the top of Group B going into the knockouts.
The winner of this match will most likely go on to win the group to advance. While Panama will be looked at as an underdog, they can sneak up on you and lock it down. Just go back to the draw in March.
Bruce Arena was forced to make a change to the Gold Cup 23-man roster. KAA Gent midfielder Kenny Seif injured his groin in the win over Ghana. So Saif is out for the entire Gold Cup and maybe one of his only shots to crack the roster. He’s been replaced by able bodied Philadelphia Union midfielder Chris Pontius.
Player’s to watch: Dom Dwyer and Kellyn Acosta
The USMNT will most likely field the same team that took the field against Ghana. Which the US got the victory thanks to Dwyer and Acosta.
