As the Thorns announced earlier today that they were changing the kick off time in response to the record heat the northwest and Portland in particular. The Timbers are now doing the same thing for their match up against the LA Galaxy on Sunday. Right now the forecast calls for temps well into the 90’s on Sunday.
Originally this match was scheduled for 1pm kickoff. They’ve now moved it back two hours to 11 am, it’s brunch PTFC style! You can catch the match on ESPN and ESPN deportes if you’re not going to be there.
Here’s the official word:
PORTLAND, Ore. – Major League Soccer today announced that the Portland Timbers home match against the LA Galaxy at Providence Park on Sunday, Aug. 6, has been moved to 11 a.m. (Pacific) due to excessive heat forecast for the Portland, Ore., area. Sunday’s match against the Galaxy will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
Originally scheduled for 1 p.m. (Pacific), the new start time will allow for lower on-field and in-stadium temperatures earlier in the day.
