Despite nearly annual plaudits from Timbers Fans, it took eight seasons of dominating the midfield, kicking ass, and taking names—all with a smile on his face—for Diego Chara to get officially recognized as the best defensive midfielder in the league.

The MLS Extra Time Live awards show streamed today, handing out an array of awards from Chara’s DM of the Year, to Quote of the Year, which was won for the second year in-a-row by prolific and mesmerizing rant-master Mike Petke, coach of Real Salt Lake. Watch his rant here and be entertained.

The Timbers Army won the best Tifo for the fantastically frightening Pennywise creation during a home match against Seattle.

Finally, Samuel Armenteros won Skill Play of the Year for this goal against San Jose earlier in the season. It has been compared to this goal scored by Premier League player Dennis Bergkamp in 2002, which is still considered one of the greatest goals of all-time.
