Portland Timbers vs. Houston Dynamo: Preseason Match Thread [1:00]

MLS: Western Conference Semifinal-Houston Dynamo at Portland Timbers Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers are back in Arizona today and set to take on the Houston Dynamo as the Major League Soccer preseason continues. Today’s match, despite coming during the preseason, will have a revenge factor for the Timbers after they lost 3-1 on aggregate to the Dynamo in the playoffs last year.

In addition to having some of the spice expected of a regular season match, the Timbers are approaching a completed roster state, having wrapped up the acquisition of forward Samuel Armenteros since their last preseason match. The Dynamo, on the other hand, have opened up some room on their roster by getting rid of a number of players including pesky forward Erick “Cubo” Torres, but they have yet to bring in any major acquisitions this offseason.

The regular season is rapidly approaching, but don’t expect full ninety minute performances from the Timbers just yet. While some players could see sixty minutes in this match, it seems likely that few will play more than a half as the Timbers continue to ramp up to March 4th.
