The Portland Timbers are in a 1-1 draw with Seattle, at halftime of a preseason edition of the Cascadia Cup. Diego Valeri has Portland’s lone goal, a 24th minute equalizer after Christian Roldan opened the scoring in the ninth minute for Seattle.
The counter attack has been the main source of offense for both teams through the first 45 minutes. Jordan Morris has been sent through the PTFC back line several times, but the Timbers’ back four mainly kept the ball on Morris’s left foot. Seattle’s goal came via a rebound off of the keeper Atinella. Morris was sent through the line and took a shot right at the keeper, which was redirected to Roldan for the goal.
Portland has also had success off the counter. The Timbers, however, sent their wingers on runs in the channels, and then swung balls into the box. That’s how PTFC got the ball on Valeri’s head for their equalizer. Timbers have also won several threatening corners from sending wingers on runs, trying to beat wing backs.
Several changes have been made to both lineups to start the second half.
