Alvas Powell had himself one hell of a weekend.
He scored the first goal at Providence Park of the 2018 season with a beautiful run. He twisted and turned the Loons defense on his way to his fifth career goal in just the 23rd minute of the Timbers home opener.
That goal was just the start of the 23 year-old defender’s night. Just minutes later (two minutes to be exact), he made a run down the wing crossing a ball into the box that took from a Loons defender—where Diego Valeri was waiting at the near post to redirect the ball into the back of the net.
Here’s that assist.
Saturday night against the Loons was the Alvas Powell Show. This is the second time in his MLS career where he’s picked up a goal and assist in the same match. That one was back in 2014 against the San Jose Earthquakes.
