The U.S. Open Cup is fast approaching.
While the senior Timbers squad won’t be entering the competition until the fourth round, they’re not the only Timbers team that will be competing in the Open Cup.
The first round draw was this morning.
The Timbers U23s have drawn Kitsap Pumas SC in the first round with the match set for next month on the 8th of May in Salem at McCulloch Stadium. Kitsap SC are a NPSL side located across the Puget Sound from Seattle in Bremerton Washington and they are no strangers to the Open Cup.
The Open Cup has been running since 1913, crowning their first champion in 1914. It’s the second-oldest continually operating soccer tournament in the world.
For those of you who might not know, the Timbers U23 squad is based in Salem and are a member of the Premier Development League. They play their home matches either at the Capital FC grounds or McCulloch Stadium.
Their season kicks off towards the end of the month at home against Twin City Union FC at 7pm on the 28th.
