As you know by now, the U.S. Open Cup is in full swing and it’s time to add MLS teams to the mix for the start of the fourth round.
The Portland Timbers drew the San Jose Earthquakes. I’m more amazed that we’re not facing Seattle in the fourth round; but San Jose it is. The Timbers will get the advantage of playing them in the friendly confines of Providence Park on Wednesday June 6th (there’s a possibility this could change).
There must be some glitch in the matrix as facing the Seattle Sounders at Starfire has become somewhat of a yearly tradition. Though we’re not out of the woods yet, we could face them in the next round, provided we advance.
This will be Gio Savarese’s first shot at winning some hardware as manager of the Portland Timbers. I’m hoping he takes it a bit more seriously than his predecessor.
