Timbers without Chara

We beat SKC without Chara in 2016 3-0.

It has already begun over on the MLS website, and we are going to hear an earful over the next week about the Timbers record without Chara in the lineup. I didn't have to click on more than two articles this morning to learn that it is 0-11-6 over the last 17 matches without Chara's smiling face. The one game that everyone conveniently forgets, or ignores because it doesn't fit the narrative, was a win against SKC. On 8/7/16, Chara started the game against SKC, but lived the dream and smacked Feilhaber in the face, and was sent off in the 12th minute. Mustivar returned the favor and got himself sent off late in the first half. The Timbers scored 3 in the second half and kept a clean sheet without Chara running around the middle of the field for 78 minutes. Of course, beating the same team we are playing this weekend 3-0 without Chara doesn't fit the desired narrative, so you won't hear about this game. For those of us in the army that day, it was a fun one to attend.

Also, in case anyone forgot, Chara was injured for the start of the 2015 playoffs. Jewsbury played the full 120 against SKC and 90 a couple of days later against Vancouver. Chara didn't make his first appearance until BC Place. Technically, the first two games were draws, but again, it doesn't fit the 0-11-6 narrative.

The point is that we are much better with Chara, but it is not as dire as the national MLS media wants everyone to believe.
