Seven Thorns players named to Tournament of Nations rosters

USWNT and the Matildas each take a few

The Portland Thorns will be without key players when the team travels to Sky Blue FC on Saturday as the U.S. Women’s National Team and Westfield Matildas have called up a total of seven Thorns players to training camp for the Tournament of Nations (ToN), according to a press release from the Portland Thorns and a separate announcement from the Matildas.

Representing the United States, the USWNT called up midfielders Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan, goalkeeper Adrianna Franch and defender Emily Sonnett. Forwards Haley Raso, Caitlin Foord, and defender Ellie Carpenter were selected by Matildas Head Coach Alen Stajcic to defend their title from last year’s inaugural ToN.

Players are expected to rejoin the club before the Thorn’s August 5 road match against North Carolina.

Set to take place later in the month, all of the USWNT matches will be broadcast live FS1, including when they meet the Matildas on July 29 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. at 4 p.m. (All times listed as Pacific).

The USWNT opens the tournament playing Japan on July 26 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas with kickoff is set for 4 p.m. The USWNT concludes the tournament against Brazil at 5:30 p.m. from Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois on August 2.

The Matildas open play against Brazil on July 26 July from Children’s Mercy Park and play their third match against Japan on August 2nd, also from Toyota Park.
