The Portland Timbers fell to the Whitecaps in a 2-1 loss at home. The game ended the unbeaten run of 15 in MLS play for the Timbers, and was the Timbers first loss at Providence Park in 2018.
The Timbers trailed by two goals after the first half and only managed to get one back before the game ended. Diego Valeri missed a penalty kick in the first half, shooting it wide of the goal. When the Timbers were given another penalty in the second half, Valeri put it in the back of the net decisively.
The Timbers held high levels of possession throughout the night, and made a big push for an equalizer late in the second half. However, the effort was not enough, and they fell short. Overall, the result wasn’t there for the Timbers on Saturday night, but there were good individual performances put in by the players.
