We have a date. The Portland Timbers are officially set to face off against FC Dallas in the first round of the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs on Sunday, Nov. 22 at Providence Park. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN with kickoff set for 7 p.m. PT.
The MLS Cup Playoffs will consist of a total of 17 single-elimination knockout matches played over the course of 22 days. The first match will be a play-in match between the New England Revolution and Montreal Impact, starting at 3:30 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 20.
Portland earned the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with a 11-6-6 record (W-L-D). Since MLS switched to a points per game format for this year’s playoffs, Portland earned the third spot in the West by finishing with an average of 1.7 points per game.
As the third best team in the West, Portland earned homefield advantage over Dallas. They have not played Dallas at any point this year, but the Timbers hold the all-time series lead at 9-8-8. If Portland wins, they’ll face off against either the Seattle Sounders or LAFC in the Western Conference semifinals.
