Christine Sinclair scored her 185th international goal in a 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship match. The goal made Sinclair the top international goalscorer (male or female) of all time, surpassing the U.S.’s Abby Wambach (184).

Wambach had held the record since 2013 when she surpassed fellow U.S. international Mia Hamm (159).

Sinclair claimed the record in her 21st international season. The goal and achievement were dubbed Canada’s Soccer Moment of the Year on Thursday.

In 2019, 2018 and 2017 the Canada Soccer Moment of the Year were given to men’s soccer achievements. This is the first time since 2016 — when Canada won the bronze metal in the 2016 Rio Olympics — that the prize has gone to a women’s soccer achievement.
