U.S. soccer announced its nominees for the 2020 Female and Male Player of the Year awards on Wednesday, with Portland Thorns FC players Crystal Dunn and Lindsey Horan both being nominated. Neither player has ever won the award.
Dunn showed impressive durability during a hectic year for the women’s national team, appearing in every match as an outside back. Dunn has shown her versatility throughout her time with the national team, scoring 24 goals and tacking on 17 assists in 105 appearances.
Horan has never won the award before, but she did win the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year award in 2013. She led the USWNT in both goals and assists in the nine matches played, finding the back of the net seven times and her teammates three times. Her seven goals were a career high during a calendar year in international play.
