Timbers and Thorns Announce “PTFC: From the Archives” Broadcast Series

The weekly rebroadcast of historic PTFC matches begins this weekend; will allow fans to vote on future matches

In the barren desert that is the current lack of soccer matches on our television screens, PTFC may have just given us all a small oasis.

The Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC announced in a press release yesterday that they will be debuting a weekly broadcast series of notable past Timbers and Thorns matches, airing locally on FOX 12 (KPTV). Matches will be broadcast weekly from 3 to 5p.m., featuring Thorns matches on Saturday and Timbers matches on Sunday. After they air on broadcast, matches will be available to be streamed on-demand online on the Timbers and Thorns websites.

The series will be hosted by local Timbers play-by-play announcer, Jake Zivin, and feature former Timbers players Jack Jewsbury and Nat Borchers providing insight and perspective on each match. In addition, the release promised “other guests,” so hopefully we get to see some former Thorns players return to discuss glories from the past.

The series kicks off this weekend, featuring the first-ever home Thorns NWSL match from 2013 against Seattle Reign FC, airing on Saturday. On Sunday, we will get to relive the Timbers first-ever home MLS match against the Chicago Fire from 2011.

After this weekend, fans will be able to vote on future matches to be broadcast each week. And they will be spoiled for choice of quality games from the annals of Timbers and Thorns history: MLS Cup 2015? How about the Thorns home match against FC Kansas City from 2015, which featured Michelle Betos’ epic 95th minute equalizer? Or the “Car Show” in Seattle from the 2018 playoffs? Finishing Business in the 2017 NWSL Final? You’ll get a chance to have your say.

So, let’s hear it here Rose City!
