The Seattle Times reported on Friday that Seattle Sounders forward Raul Ruidiaz was suspended and fined an undisclosed amount for violent conduct during Wednesday’s match against the Portland Timbers. He will miss Seattle’s next game against the LA Galaxy.
In the 54th minute of Wednesday’s match against the Timbers, Ruidiaz challenged Timbers defender Pablo Bonilla and fell to the ground after Bonilla fouled him. Ruidiaz appeared to kick Bonilla in the back of his left leg out of frustration, causing Bonilla to fall to the ground.

Referee Alan Chapman went to review the play on the VAR monitor to determine whether it was worthy of a red card. Instead, Chapman issued yellow cards to both Bonilla and Ruidiaz.
The Timbers are tied with the Sounders right now for first place in the Western Conference. Both teams play tomorrow, with the Sounders facing the Galaxy and the Timbers playing the Vancouver Whitecaps. Whatever happens tomorrow could have big implications in the playoff race for both squads. You can read the story in the Seattle Times here.
