The United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club announced Thursday the 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, and it features three of the Portland Thorns’ four 2021 NWSL Draft picks: Amirah Ali, Sam Coffey, and Yazmeen Ryan.
The list is comprised of 54 women’s collegiate players. There are five returning semifinalists from the previous season, including Ali, BYU senior Mikayla Colohan, Texas Tech senior Kirsten Davis, Southern California senior Tara McKeown, and North Carolina junior Brianna Pinto.
Fifteen semifinalists will be named at the end of April. Then, it will be narrowed done to three finalists before they select a winner.
Ali, who plays for Rutgers University, was named a semifinalist in 2019. She was also previously named a United Soccer Coaches All-American, the only one of the Thorns’ draftees to receive any of these honors in 2019.
Ryan (TCU) and Coffey (Penn State) were not included on the list last year. Ryan was and Coffey were the Thorns’ top two picks in the draft — taken sixth and 12th overall — while Ali was taken with the 25th pick. You can see the full list here.
