The Portland Thorns travel to play Kansas City NWSL today. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. PST at Legends Field. Portland enter the match knowing that they have already clinched a spot in the playoffs. But the Thorns are coming off a dramatic 3-2 loss in which they came back from two goals down before conceding a late winner. It was Portland’s second consecutive loss, which has only happened one other time this season.
The Thorns need to bounce back against Kansas City. They are still in first place but only three points separate Portland from second place OL Reign. The Thorns have played Kansas City three times in Providence Park across two competitions. Portland defeated KC 2-1 in the first match of the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup and 2-0 and 1-0 in their regular season meeting. This will be the first time the Thorns have played Kansas City NWSL away from home.
