The Portland Timbers beat Phoenix Rising 3-1 on Saturday in a preseason scrimmage. The Timbers starting lineup was made up of Dairon Asprilla, Jeff Attinella, Pablo Bonilla, Jeremy Ebobisse, Tega Ikoba, Zac McGraw, Christhian Paredes, Trialist 1, Trialist 2, Bill Tuiloma and Renzo Zambrano.

The Timbers started strong thanks to the efforts of Ikoba. He had a shot from a tight angle to start the match before opening the scoring in the 17th minute. Bonilla provided the assist that sent Ikoba in on goal.

Phoenix responded in the 34th minute to tie the match, with the first half ending 1-1. The Timbers started the second half with Asprilla, Attinella, Claudio Bravo, Yimmi Chara, Ebobisse, McGraw, Tuiloma, Diego Valeri, Josecarlos Van Rankin, Eryk Williamson and Zambrano.

The introduction of more of the Timbers’ impact players lifted Portland in the second half. Ebobisse rattled to crossbar early with a rocket before Diego Valeri gave the Timbers the lead in the 59th minute.

Portland continued to pile on the pressure and Valeri found McGraw with his set-piece service to make it 3-1.

Portland made another lineup change in the 60th minute. Bravo, Diego Chara, Yimmi Chara, Steve Clark, Trialist 3, Larrys Mabiala, Felipe Mora, Valeri, Van Rankin, Williamson and Dario Zuparic made up the Timbers’ third lineup.

The match ended 3-1 in favor of the Timbers.
