Midfielders Yimmi Chara and Diego Valeri of the Portland Timbers have both been named to Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Best XI for their performances in the Round of 16 against CD Marathon.
Chara had an excellent performance in the second leg against Marathon on Apr. 13, recording the second hat trick ever by a Timbers player. It was also the first by a Timber in CCL play. He also added three steals. Not too bad for a player partaking in his first ever CCL series.
As for Valeri, El Maestro put together two solid performances against Marathon. While he was only credited with one goal throughout the series against Marathon, his free kick in the first leg — one that was recorded as an own goal for Denovan Torres — was one of the best shots of the tournament. He also tallied a goal and an assist in the second leg against Marathon.
