Portland Thorns FC is set for their match against OL Reign, and it’s a big one. Not only is it another chance to best a Cascadia rival, it’s also an opportunity for Portland to take their place in the NWSL Challenge Cup final. If they beat the Reign, all that has to happen is a win for the Chicago Red Stars against Kansas City NWSL or a draw in that match. If two of those three things mentioned happen, they’re in.
Beyond the prospect of playing in the Challenge Cup final, this match is exciting for another reason. This will be the first game where we see the Thorns at full power. Players like Crystal Dunn, Becky Sauerbrunn, and Christine Sinclair are back with the Thorns and ready to play. Portland has already looked pretty good in their first two matches. Now we’ll get to see what it looks like all put together.
