Portland Thorns FC to start regular season against Red Stars

The NWSL unveiled the full 24-game schedule on Tuesday, with Portland Thorns FC opening their season against the Chicago Red Stars

The National Women’s Soccer League released today the 24-game regular-season schedule, and Portland Thorns FC will start their regular season against the Chicago Red Stars in Providence Park on Sunday, May 16 at 4 p.m. (Pacific).

Portland Thorns FC will host 12 regular season matches at Providence Park and will play the other 12 matches away from home. The full broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.

The Thorns will play Cascadia rival OL Reign three times during the regular season. Portland will host the Reign twice — on May 23 and Oct. 2 — and will also travel to Tacoma, WA on Aug. 29.

Portland will host expansion side Racing Louisville FC on June 5 in the clubs’ first-ever meeting. The Thorns will also make the trip to Louisville on July 3.

The Thorns will face the North Carolina Courage at Providence Park in the teams’ regular-season finale on Oct. 30.

Six teams will qualify for the NWSL Playoffs which will begin on Nov. 6. The championship will be played on Nov. 20.
