Today marks the beginning of the 2021 regular season for both Portland Thorns FC and Chicago Red Stars. The Thorns already have some hardware with their victory in the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup, but this marks the beginning of a new journey for the 2021 Thorns — one that hopefully ends with even more hardware!
There were a lot of really good things one could take away from Portland’s Challenge Cup dominance (Grant Little did an excellent job breaking all that down for you here), but the most important thing is that the Thorns look every bit as good as we could’ve hoped for. We’ve already seen how versatile new additions like Crystal Dunn make this squad, and we’ve also seen other players step up in key moments, such as Morgan Weaver. If the Challenge Cup is any indication, this could be a really fun regular season.
