The tournament, as previously reported by Steven Goff, will be hosted by Portland Thorns FC. It will take place from Aug. 18 to Aug. 21 at Providence Park.
The Thorns qualified for the tournament by winning the 2020 NWSL Fall Series. Houston won the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, Olympique Lyonnais won the French league and the 2020 UEFA Champions League, and Barcelona won the Spanish League and the 2021 Champions League, qualifying for the WICC.
Lyon is the current holders of the WICC title which they won in 2019. This is the first appearance in the competition for the other three teams.
The tournament will consist of four matches. The matches will be played as doubleheaders. Olympique Lyonnais and FC Barcelona will play on the first matchday and the Thorns will take on the Dash.
The winners of the first set of matches will play in the final and the losers will play in the third-place match on the same day.
